I’m incredibly honored to have been featured in South Carolina Voyager, a publication that’s doing meaningful work by shining a light on the stories of entrepreneurs, creatives, and community leaders across the state.
If you haven’t come across them before, South Carolina Voyager is part of the Voyager Media Group, a platform that celebrates inspiring people doing impactful work in their communities. Their mission is simple: share the untold stories of local heroes—whether they’re running small businesses, creating art, or finding ways to give back. I love what they’re doing to elevate voices that might otherwise go unheard, and I’m grateful to be included among so many talented and passionate individuals.
In the interview, I talk about my culinary roots, the journey that brought me to Myrtle Beach, and how my family—especially my son James—continues to inspire the work I do each day. Here's a short excerpt from the piece:
“My passion for hospitality started in my father’s diner in New York. It’s where I first saw what it meant to connect with people through food. Years later, that same passion led me to open, Johnny D’s Waffles and Bakery here in South Carolina. What keeps me going is the opportunity to build community, not just through meals, but through meaningful efforts like autism awareness and support.”

Thank you to the team at South Carolina Voyager for this thoughtful feature, and to all of you who continue to support Johnny D’s, Making It Delicious, and The Tasting Room on 9th. I’m excited for what’s ahead, and I’m so proud to be part of this amazing community.
